Free Body Shape Calculator & Fashion Style Tools

You have three measurements and a closet full of "maybe" outfits. Our calculator figures out your body shape, suggests clothes that work for your proportions, and helps you build a wardrobe plan. The whole thing takes about a minute.

DiscoverFashions has 8 free fashion tools. The Body Shape Calculator identifies your shape from bust, waist, and hip measurements using the FFIT classification system. The Capsule Wardrobe Quiz builds a 25-40 piece wardrobe plan matched to your style. The Color Analysis tool finds your seasonal palette from 12 sub-seasons. All tools run in your browser with no signup.

How it works

Three steps. Under a minute. No signup needed.

1

Measure

Grab a soft tape measure. You need three numbers: bust (fullest point), waist (narrowest part), and hips (widest point). Takes 30 seconds, maybe less.

2

Get your result

Plug those numbers into the Body Shape Calculator. It runs the FFIT algorithm and tells you whether you're hourglass, pear, apple, rectangle, or inverted triangle.

3

Get dressed

Your result page has clothing recommendations by category. From there, jump into the Capsule Wardrobe Quiz for a full wardrobe plan or try Color Analysis for your palette.

Instant results

Enter your measurements, get your shape. No loading screens, no "we'll email you," no waiting.

Your data stays on your device

Every calculation happens in your browser. We don't store measurements, we don't track body data, we don't sell anything.

Based on published research

The FFIT system from Simmons, Istook & Devarajan (2004). Size conversions follow EN 13402 and ISO 8559. We list our sources on the methodology page.

Free, and we mean it

No freemium upsell. All 8 tools, all features, zero cost. We run ads through Google AdSense. That covers the hosting.

Your personal style journey

Personal style starts with your body. Not with Pinterest boards or influencer reels, but with actual measurements. Three numbers. That's the foundation.

Once you know your proportions, the rest falls into place. Start with the Body Shape Calculator to figure out your frame. Then try the Color Analysis Quiz if you've ever stared at two shades of blue in a store and genuinely couldn't tell which one looked better on you. The Capsule Wardrobe Quiz ties it all together with a wardrobe plan matched to both your shape and your style.

We also have guides for the practical stuff. The dress for your body shape guide covers specific recommendations for each of the 5 shapes. Curious about what body shape most women have? We wrote a full breakdown with the research data. And if you're not sure where you fall, the what is my body shape guide walks you through a self-assessment.

Research behind the tools

We didn't make these algorithms up. Every calculator and quiz is grounded in published research and international standards.

FFIT classification system

The Body Shape Calculator runs on the Female Figure Identification Technique from Simmons, Istook & Devarajan (2004), published in a peer-reviewed journal. Same system used in fashion industry research.

International size standards

Size conversions follow EN 13402 (European) and ISO 8559 (international). Not random conversion tables pulled from the internet.

Open methodology

We publish the full methodology, academic references, and limitations. No black boxes. If something looks wrong, you can check our math.

Frequently asked questions

What is a body shape calculator?

It takes your bust, waist, and hip measurements and classifies your body into one of 5 shapes: hourglass, pear, apple, rectangle, or inverted triangle. Ours uses the FFIT system from NC State University research. You also get clothing recommendations for your specific shape.

How do I find my body shape?

Three measurements: bust at the fullest point, waist at the narrowest part (usually above the belly button), and hips at the widest point. Stand straight, wear something fitted, and use a flexible tape measure. Enter the numbers into our calculator. Takes maybe 30 seconds.

What are the 5 body shapes for women?

Hourglass (bust and hips balanced, defined waist), Pear (hips wider than bust), Apple (fuller midsection), Rectangle (similar proportions throughout), and Inverted Triangle (broader shoulders). Rectangle is the most common at 46% of women, according to the NC State study of 6,318 women.

Is the body shape calculator accurate?

It uses the same FFIT classification system from peer-reviewed research (Simmons, Istook & Devarajan, 2004) that fashion researchers use. That said, bodies don't always fit neatly into categories. If you're between two shapes, that's normal. The result gives you a solid starting point for finding styles that work with your proportions.

What is a capsule wardrobe?

A curated set of 25 to 40 clothing pieces that all work together. The concept was coined by Susie Faux, a London boutique owner, in the 1970s. Our quiz matches you to one of four style directions: Minimalist, Classic, Trendy, or Bohemian.

How does the color analysis quiz work?

It looks at your skin undertone, hair color, and eye color. You get matched to one of 12 sub-seasons (like Warm Autumn or Cool Winter) with a palette of colors that look good on you. Includes clothing and makeup suggestions.

What is the most common body shape?

Rectangle, at about 46% of women. Then pear (20%), apple (14%), inverted triangle (12%), and hourglass (8%). These numbers come from a study at NC State University that measured over 6,000 women. There's no "best" shape. They're just different proportions.

Can your body shape change over time?

Your skeleton doesn't change after puberty. But fat distribution shifts with hormones, pregnancy, menopause, and muscle changes. So yes, your classified shape can change. Worth retaking the calculator after major life changes.

Are these tools really free? What's the catch?

No catch. We run Google AdSense ads. That pays for hosting and development. Your measurements never leave your browser.

How is DiscoverFashions different from other body shape calculators?

Most calculators give you a result and stop there. We connect the result to style guides, a wardrobe quiz, color analysis, and 5 other tools. You don't just learn your shape. You get a plan for what to actually wear.
